RESTORATIVE

Alex: “In other words, how can a circular economy, or better, a circular society, be spatially organised?”

Francesca: “A ‘restored’ periphery should not necessarily mean erasing the productive, infrastructural or waste-related landscapes that are already there. From an urban design perspective, the challenge is rather to rethink how these systems coexist with everyday life, ecological processes and new forms of inhabitation. Spatial design can make these often hidden flows of waste, water, energy and materials more visible and interconnected, while transforming their edges into places of interaction rather than separation. Restoration can then be understood not as a return to an idealised condition, but as a process of repair: creating healthier relationships between people, ecosystems and the metabolic processes that sustain urban life.”
